2019 brings a gap-year for Ali and two guest-hosts for you!
Same number of books! Same number of meetings! Just changes in personnel and timings!
(For the year, we’ve made some logistically necessary changes to the timing of several groups. If a favoured time-slot has gone into hibernation please do consider joining an alternative group – email us and we’ll work it out!)
1. First Monday 9.30am-11am
2. First Monday 7pm-8.30pm
3. First Thursday 9.30am-11am
4. First Thursday 3.30pm-5pm
5. First Thursday 7pm-8.30pm
6. First Saturday 2.30pm-4pm
In case of public holidays the meeting will be on the second Monday or Thursday.
Your email contact will be firstname.lastname@example.org
For 2019 the reading groups will be guest-hosted by Ruth Quibell and Damon Young.
Damon Young is an award-winning philosopher and author. His twelve books of nonfiction and children’s fiction are published internationally in English and translation. He writes for newspapers and magazines, and is a regular radio and festival guest. Damon once played a mafia thug in a Jackie Chan film but we are unlikely to be discussing this!
Ruth Quibell is a sociologist and writer. She is the author of The Promise of Things and has written essays, book reviews and opinion pieces for Fairfax, Island, Womankind, Dumbo Feather, Meanjin, and the ABC. Her favourite writers include Elizabeth Strout, Deborah Levy, Jenny Diski, and Lisa Gorton. She drinks her tea without milk: earl grey, hot.
The first three books for 2019 are:
February: The Silence of the Girls, by Pat Barker
March: The Arsonist, by Chloe Hooper
April: The Everlasting Sunday, by Robert Lukins
