Brolliology
Fullers Bookshop
James Joyce once said: ‘An umbrella is as easily forgotten as a brother.’ Which is perhaps his way of saying we only reach for them when we need them.
In Brolliology – literally ‘the study of umbrellas’ – Marion Rankine looks at the history of the umbrella, from its invention in Ancient Egypt, to its place in Dickens (where it signalled that one couldn’t afford a carriage).
Marion, a London-based writer and bookseller, is coming to Fullers to talk about this necessary, and revealing, accoutrement. Sure to be a fascinating, and a little sartorial, event!
Join Marion for a discussion of Brolliology at Fullers Bookshop.
Tickets are free but booking is essential as places may be limited.
