“Heineken here. Detective Inspector Franz Heineken…”

You’ve been waiting for it, and …  the next instalment of David Owen’s reissued Pufferfish Series is here! Hold onto your walkie talkies, because this 90s hardboiled, long-time villian busting Tasmanian detective has had a 2020s makeover.

Detective Inspector Franz Heineken has been up to his prickly eyeballs in toxic island murk for decades, so’s perfectly placed to privately award himself a golden handshake. Live out some kind of sunny high life far away. All good, what could go wrong?

Ah but wait. Exterminating Pufferfish will make the Earlybird Gang safer, and wealthier. Can’t go wrong with that, thanks to the bloke’s of late narky and sus behaviour, playing right into a career-end dodgy cop narrative.

Never mind embittered Sergeant Izzy ‘Strangler’ Boston: Pufferfish is your bent, sour, treacherous villain. What’s more, he’s a slow-moving, easy target. He and his dumbarsed island coppers v. ultra-cunning Mr Bigses, latter moving high-grade heroin to top dollar markets through witless offshore Tas. No contest. Easy as.

And somewhere in that mix, one clean professional hit, taking out troublesome DI Franz Heineken for all time, job well done. What could possibly go wrong with that, eh?

David will be in conversation with journalist and crime-fan Sally Glaetzer.
