Starts 05:30PM
Fullers Bookshop, 131 Collins Street, Hobart, TAS 7000

4PM is about creativity and risk.

The project began in 2021: each day, the composer, Dean Stevenson, started with a new blank page. As the hours pressed on, he had to commit something to paper. At 4.00pm, a string quartet arrived to play what the composer wrote. In ten months, 150 works for a string quartet were composed. A further 139 works followed in 2023.

This new book that accompanies the project, 4PM: 150 First Drafts, is centered around Dean’s journals of the first 150 days of the 4PM installation in Mona. It is creativity from the driver’s seat, day by day. The book also links the reader to over 11 hours of music – the live recordings from each day’s 4.00pm presentation.

Join Dean and Ryk Goddard at the Afterword Cafe to discuss this bold work, and listen along to some of the recordings that give musical context to the book.

Tickets are $10 and include a glass of wine (or a cold drink).
