Winner of the 2018 Kay Daniels Award for this ground-breaking, illuminating history, Dianne Snowden, will deliver a Tim Talk on the plight of 138 Irish women (and their 35 children) transported to Van Diemen’s Land on the convict transport Tasmania (2) in 1845.

Through examining the women, the conditions in which they lived in Ireland, the reasons for their sentencing, and the social impact of their transportation, Dianne’s study emphasises the role transportation played in shaping contemporary Australia.
