In Tasmania’s far south, the Huon Valley is one of Australia’s most vibrant and diverse food producing regions.

Foremost Tasmanian food journalist Elaine Reeves tells the stories of struggle and triumph of more than 50 of these small and large producers and the community festivals they feed.

The Huon Valley is the reason Tasmania was known as The Apple Isle, and it still is a major apple-growing area, but now cherries, blueberries, strawberries and salmon also grow here.  Some of the apples go into the burgeoning cider industry and winemakers who like to live on the edge love the Huon Valley too.

Along with the CWA, roadside honesty boxes and apple pies the valley is home to sushi, saffron fields and a farm restaurant of national repute.

Included in each season in A Table in the Valley are delicious recipes using the local produce by award-winning Tasmanian chef Steve Cumper and photographer Paul County’s five generations of predecessors in the Huon Valley inform his photography of this stunning region.
