Dear xyzers!

How are you?  Have you been enjoying the summer?  We’ve missed you terribly over the last few months, but after a hectic hiatus of Christmas retail and January therapy, we’re back and ready for a new year of reading, imbibing, and enjoying your handsome company.  To kick things off on in 2012 we’ve got:

While not strictly an xyz thing, you should definitely pay attention to the launch of Twitch

23rd February 2012  at 6 of the clock
Fullers Bookshop Hobart
Do you Twitch?

Are you interested in writing? Are you into: books, journalism, poetry, or anything in between? Would you like access to a like-minded community of young people? Yes? Then this is JUST for you:

Twitch is launching into the atmosphere for the first time. Come along to Fullers Bookshop Hobart on 23rd February to hear young Tasmanian writers read their work, eat some stuff, drink some stuff, get the goss, get in the know, and maybe even find another reason to pick up that pen and write, write, write.

Reservations essential: xyz@fullersbookshop.com.au

“But when the pen is in their hand
they have to write by itch and twitch...”

The Scarlet Letter for XYZ delectation

The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne

Fullers Bookshop, Thursday 22nd March, 6pm

For our first book of the year we’re delving into a world of romance, Puritanism and adultery with Nathaniel Hawthorne’s famous novel, The Scarlet Letter.

Considered by many be the father of American literature – who is that Hemingway guy, anyway? – Hawthorne’s take on guilt and sin is something you, dear readers, do not want to miss.  Come along and join us in a heady, sinful, downright pagan display of drink-having, snack-eating and book-discussing.

Available from Fullers for a paltry $12.95.

Big Bad Book 2012

Don Quixote, Miguel Cervantes

Fullers Bookshop, Monday 19th March, 6pm

We don't have an image of Don Quixote yet,

so here's a brick wrapped in lemon peel instead.

                  Read on, intrepid explorer...

Have you ever wanted to read a book, but felt daunted by its size?  Fear not!  Here at xyz we know the pains of such hefty tomes, and have found that making the attempt in groups can ease the pain.

In 2010 we tackled Ulysses, and in 2011 we took on Underworld.  From the rubble of thumbed pages we have emerged victorious, ready again to ask the question: are you afraid of the Big Bad Book?  This year we’re doing Don Quixote.  Come along to our first meeting, on Monday the 19th March, to find out more.  Hope to see you there.

Available for Fullers, again for $12.95.  And at 976 pages, that’s a bargain!

Happy reading,

xyz

Oh, and you should do the thing...
